What’s good about Goodwick?
Siriole is located in Quay Road, a quiet residential street just a
two-minute walk from the centre of Goodwick and ten minutes on foot
from the sea front, or Parrog as it’s known locally.
Goodwick has three lively pubs, two of which serve food, a good quality,
reasonably priced restaurant and a fish and chip shop.
Located on Main Street, a two minute walk from the house, is Goodwick Post Office, which also sells
stationery, books, toys and DVDs. The post office incorporates a newsagent’s, selling essential
groceries and, at the weekend, fresh croissants, an ideal accompaniment
to your Sunday paper.
Further down the street there is Parrs grocers, which has an excellent butchers and
can offer a delivery service.
The village also has a laundrette, a very good hairdresser’s,
a church and a chapel.
Walk the other direction down Quay Road and in five minutes you will
find yourself at the newly refurbished Bay Hotel. The hotel’s two
restaurants and bar are open to non-residents.
Goodwick Parrog is a ten-minute walk away from the house, it is home to
the popular Ocean Lab with its exhibition space, cafe, children’s soft
play area and tourist information centre.
The Parrog also has a children’s play park, green area and small beach
as well as one of the best ice cream vans in the county. Across the road
from the Parrog there is a petrol station, small supermarket and busy
café.
Siriole is a short walk from the189 mile long Pembrokeshire coast path,
making it an ideal base for exploring this stunning stretch of
coastline. There are also many pleasant short walks in the area, from
the easy amble along the breakwater to longer circular walks. Maps and
route descriptions are available in the house.
Goodwick enjoys good public transport links. We are within walking
distance of the ferry to Rosslare, Ireland, which runs twice daily all
year round, with additional fast ferry services in the summer. The train
to Swansea, Cardiff and London also leaves from Fishguard Harbour.
The local bus service runs from Goodwick Square and includes the
Strumble Shuttle, a “walkers’ bus” that takes you north east along the
coast as far as St. Davids, providing excellent access to remote coastal
locations on the way.
Just up the hill from Goodwick is its twin town, Fishguard, which boasts
a new leisure centre and swimming pool, a cinema, excellent
restaurants and numerous pubs and shops.
A full information pack on the local area is available in the house.
